A Virginia woman has been booked with 83 counts of forgery for allegedl= y=20 embezzling more than $20,000 from a Metairie dentist's office where she wo= rked,=20 according to police reports.
It's unclear how long Karen Guillot served as an office manager for Dr.= =20 Thomas Adams. But after she left, employees discovered that Guillot, 33, h= ad=20 forged 83 checks from the business and had never deposited a dime of the c= ash=20 paid by patients while she served in that position, according to a Jeffers= on=20 Parish Sheriff's Office incident report.
She was booked Thursday at the Gretna jail on the forgery charges and o= ne=20 count of theft, after being extradited to Jefferson Parish from Chesapeake= Va.,=20 where she had been arrested by the Virginia Beach Sheriff's Office.
Adams' office reported the theft in May 2006. By November of that year,= =20 Justice of the Peace Vernon Wilty III had issued an arrest warrant for Gui= llot.=20 It was unclear Monday why it took so long for Guillot to be apprehended. <= /P>
Adams did not return a telephone call Monday for comment.
Bail was set for Guillot at $133,000, but she was released on a signatu= re=20 bond. She could not be reached for comment Monday.
