A 31-year-old Prince Frederick woman has been charged with multiple counts of theft and forgery after what investigators described as a scheme to take cash payments from a dental office and alter records. Keyonta Letiece Brown was charged Sept. 10 following an investigation involving her former employer and the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities assert the investigation revealed specific instances of theft. On July 17, 2025, a patient reportedly paid $138 in cash with their account credited, but Brown’s end-of-day report allegedly stated no cash was received. The payment record was reportedly deleted the following day by Brown.
Similarly, on August 21, 2025, a patient allegedly paid $140 cash and received a receipt, but Brown’s end-of-day report again reportedly stated no cash was received. Court records detail additional instances involving patients who paid $60 and $30, respectively, with their payment records allegedly deleted from the system by Brown.
The company completed its internal investigation on Sept. 4 and provided additional evidence to law enforcement. Investigators wrote that the business determined the total amount of missing cash was $368. Charging documents state that Brown was the only person responsible for completing daily reports and making deposits.
Brown faces charges of theft scheme involving $100 to under $1,500, which under Maryland law carries a maximum penalty of 18 months in prison. Multiple forgery counts each carry maximum penalties of three years, while individual theft charges carry penalties ranging from 90 days to 18 months.
Court records show Brown was issued a summons rather than being arrested. A preliminary inquiry hearing is scheduled for Oct. 27 in Calvert County District Court.
Deputy R. Contic investigated the case for the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office. The State’s Attorney’s Office for Calvert County is prosecuting the charges.
