<div>When an embezzler thinks that he or she is about to be discovered (and possibly go to jail, have their friends read about them in the newspaper, have their spouse find out about their illegal activities etc.), their thoughts turn to self-preservation. This is a very strong emotion, and anyone who has ever taken lifeguarding training is well aware of the danger of getting too close to someone who believes that they are in danger.</div>

<div>We have seen many instances of destroyed hard drives, missing backup media and in a couple of extreme cases, arson and murder committed by dental office embezzlers attempting to cover their tracks.</div>

<div>Although such efforts normally end badly for the embezzler, the dangers they pose for dentists are considerable. When we say that embezzlement is a job for professionals, this is one of the reasons why. Our group of talented investigators continues to improve their skills. Whether it's learning their own software or working on their professional qualifications such as their Certified Fraud Examiner designation, all of our investigators are in a process of continual learning.</span></span></div>

One of the big motivations for this is to properly recognize our valued strategic partners. We are privileged to work with some outstanding people who serve the dental community. The purpose of the DEI is to allow the professionals who work in this field (in other words Prosperident and its competition) to collaborate in the study of embezzlement and to raise the level of awareness among dentists and their advisors. Prosperident will provide initial funding for this initiative; how far the DEI ultimately goes will depend on the willingness of people in the business of investigating dental embezzlement to participate and contribute.
