Connie Harpold, 48, of Scottsbluff, Nebraska was convicted of embezzling from her former dental employer. Despite requesting probation on the basis of family hardship, a Scotts Bluff County District Judge sentenced Harpold to three years of probation and thirty days in jail. Her case is consistent with the judicial trend toward imposing some period of incarceration even in embezzlement cases where the defendant has family obligations.
