Hanford, California police investigated a check fraud scheme in which individuals presenting themselves as employees of Platinum Dental passed fraudulent checks at local businesses. The checks bore the company's logo but were drawn on a nonexistent or closed account, leaving retailers unable to obtain reimbursement from their banks.
Among the confirmed victims was Harrod's Market on East Sixth Street, which lost more than $1,000 in the scheme. Police identified at least four businesses as victims, with total known losses estimated at approximately $4,000, and acknowledged that additional victims may not yet have come forward. No arrests had been made at the time the case was reported, with investigators noting that the high volume of concurrent cases had affected the pace of the investigation.
