Illiana Sacerio, 20, a former front-desk employee at It’s a Smile World Pediatric Dentistry in Wellington, Florida, is facing felony charges after Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office deputies alleged she systematically deleted computer files and shredded office documents on January 19, 2026 — then walked out during her lunch break and never returned.
According to the PBSO arrest report, Sacerio arrived at the practice at approximately 8:20 a.m. Surveillance video captured her working alone at the front desk between approximately 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., appearing to delete files while periodically checking her phone and looking over her shoulder. She left for lunch around noon and did not return or notify the dentist or staff that she was departing.
The practice owner advised investigators that the deleted files included patient consent forms, front office documents, tax forms, insurance files, marketing and website branding files, patient communication software, dental software files, patient X-rays, voicemail system files, employee records, inventory lists, and evaluation forms. Sacerio also removed paper documents from front desk drawers, shredded them, and discarded them in a trash bag outside the building — a bag later recovered from a dumpster.
IT workers who attempted to recover the deleted files found that some data had been overwritten by the server before the damage was discovered, rendering recovery impossible. The practice was unable to access patient voicemails for approximately one week, and disruptions to business operations and patient care were reported.
The practice owner estimated minimum damages of $9,000, comprising approximately $4,000 for logo design recovery, $3,000 in employee overtime, $1,000 in IT expenses, and $1,000 for website recovery.
