Jasmine Delafuente, a former bookkeeper for a dental practice in Redwood City, California (CA), entered a no-contest plea to charges arising from the theft of approximately $70,000 from the practice. The plea resolved criminal proceedings initiated after financial irregularities were discovered in the practice’s accounts. A bookkeeper with unmonitored access to practice funds represents one of the highest-risk positions in dental office operations.

Delafuente was sentenced to a four-year term, which she served as two years in county jail followed by two years of mandatory supervision under California’s realignment rules. She was also ordered to pay $70,161.54 in restitution to her former employer.
