Kari Anne Edwards, 53, of Mankato, Minnesota (MN), was charged with two counts of felony drug possession and two counts of felony theft after she allegedly stole controlled substances from an oral surgery practice where she had recently begun providing cleaning services.
An employee of the practice alerted authorities after a bottle of fentanyl was discovered missing in February, followed by an additional bottle of fentanyl and a bottle of propofol reported missing in March. The medications, valued at more than $1,500, had been stored in a locked cabinet; however, the key to the cabinet was kept in an unlocked desk drawer. When agents from the Minnesota River Valley Drug Task Force interviewed Edwards, she allegedly admitted to taking the drugs and returned two unused bottles. The identity of the oral surgery practice was not disclosed by authorities.
