Kathy Ann Hanson, 59, of Hugo, Minnesota pleaded guilty to theft by swindle in Ramsey County District Court after bilking more than $90,000 from the Maplewood dental office where she was employed by writing unauthorized checks against practice accounts. Writing unauthorized checks is one of the most common methods dental office employees use to divert practice funds, and the lack of independent check reconciliation is the control failure that most often enables it.
