Marcie Ramirez, 37, a former receptionist at Broadmoor Family Dentistry in Pasco, Washington, pleaded guilty in Franklin County Superior Court to first-degree theft for stealing at least $8,600 by pocketing cash payments from patients rather than applying them to their accounts.
In her plea statement, Ramirez admitted that when uninsured patients paid in cash, she issued them handwritten receipts but kept the money rather than recording it as a payment. She was confronted about the missing funds by practice owner Dr. Navjot Khurana and office manager Oscar Garcia, and acknowledged the scheme at that time. Ramirez had signed an agreement with the practice to repay the stolen funds by June 10 but failed to honor it, leading to criminal charges. As part of her plea agreement, prosecutors agreed not to file additional theft or fraud charges related to other Broadmoor Family Dentistry patients.
