Marisol Lira, 41, a former administrative assistant at Smile Factory Pediatric Dentistry in Eagle Pass, Texas, was arrested in June 2020 and charged with theft and credit card abuse after allegedly using her access to company credit cards to steal over $10,000 from her employer.
According to Eagle Pass police, Lira held a managerial administrative position at Smile Factory Pediatric Dentistry, located at 2499 N. Veterans Blvd., where she was a trusted employee with access to the office's credit cards. Investigators allege she exploited that access to pocket funds for personal use over an extended period spanning more than a year and a half.
The alleged scheme is reported to have taken place between June 2019 and December 2020. Lira was arrested by the Eagle Pass Police Department and charged with one count of Credit or Debit Card Abuse and Fraud. She was subsequently released after posting a $4,500 bond.
The case was later elevated to a state felony charge of theft of over $2,500 but less than $30,000. Nearly a year after her initial arrest, Lira was scheduled to appear before District Judge Maribel Flores for a plea hearing on July 1, with court documents confirming the proceeding was related to a potential plea agreement.
The total alleged theft exceeded $10,000 according to the initial police report and the subsequent felony charge.
