Prosperident's Wendy Askins can take credit for helping to nab another embezzler. Maryann Schafer of Westerville, Ohio pled guilty this week to two theft-related felony charges. The amount of the theft was alleged to be in excess of $150,000.
Maryann Schafer was sentenced to three years of incarceration, which was suspended. She was also placed on five years probation and ordered to pay restitution of $80,000 to the Ohio practice she stole from. Our information is that she has repaid $50,000 already and is repaying the balance at a rate of $100 per month.
A review of her records reveals a 2017 bankruptcy. In addition to working as the office manager of the dental practice, she was the owner of a business called Second Glance Uniforms.
