Pocomoke MD woman convicted of embezzlement again this year

A Worcester County woman was convicted of embezzlement for the second time this year, this time for stealing more than $191,000 from a Salisbury employer and committing insurance fraud, prosecutors said.

Taylor Clark, 32, of Pocomoke, stole from her former employer, Delmarva Dental Services, and submitted a fraudulent letter to the company’s insurer to add a significant other as a beneficiary, according to a news release Tuesday from the Wicomico County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Clark previously pleaded guilty to embezzlement Jan. 6 and received a three-year suspended sentence, court records show. A spokesperson for the state’s attorney said this latest conviction “will not violate her probation in that case.”

On Tuesday, Clark pleaded guilty to embezzlement and other charges for the second time this year. Administrative Judge S. James Sarbanes of Wicomico County Circuit Court sentenced her to 20 years in prison, with all but three years suspended, for theft. He also gave her two years for insurance fraud, for a total of five years of active incarceration. She was also sentenced to five years of supervised probation with special conditions, including paying restitution.

Delmarva Dental Services hired Clark as a business manager in November 2024 and, a month later, “began making unauthorized purchases, cash withdrawals, cash deposit thefts, and unauthorized additions to her pay,” according to prosecutors.

“When an employee abuses their authority to systematically steal from an employer, they don’t just take money from that business, they fracture the trust that holds our community together,” Wicomico County State’s Attorney Jamie Dykes said in a release. “This plea reflects the severity of that betrayal and sends a clear message that white-collar theft will be aggressively prosecuted in Wicomico County.”

Clark’s attorney said he hopes this latest agreement allows Clark to atone for her transgressions and move on with her life.

“Taylor accepted responsibility for her actions and entered this plea understanding the consequences. We hope this resolution allows her to move forward and, in time, make meaningful amends,” Clark’s attorney John K. Phoebus said in an email.

Charging documents show Clark was indicted by a Wicomico County grand jury on Feb. 9 and charged with a theft scheme of $100,000 or more, embezzlement and making false statements to an insurance company. According to those documents, Clark stole more than $100,000 from Delmarva Dental Services between Dec. 7, 2024, and Jan. 22, 2026.

She faced up to 20 years and fines up to $250,000 for the felony theft charge, up to five years for the misdemeanor embezzlement charge, and up to 15 years and $10,000 in fines for felony insurance fraud. The misdemeanor charge was later dropped.

The case may have extended beyond a single business in Wicomico County. A witness list from the state’s attorney’s office named 75 potential witnesses, including police, Delmarva Dental Services workers, multiple insurance companies and banks, credit card companies, Amazon.com, Etsy, DoorDash, Lowe’s, Gap, Olive Garden, PetSmart, Walmart and several Salisbury-area businesses.

Clark’s lengthy prior record includes false statements to police in 2025; an embezzlement case in 2026 in Maryland; invasion of privacy in 2022; identity theft in 2024; and failure to appear in court in 2024 in Virginia, according to documents provided by the state’s attorney’s office.  Proper pre-employment screening is essential when hiring in dental practices.
