Michael Doughty, 45, of Lacey, Washington (WA), was arrested on suspicion of money laundering in connection with the $1.9 million embezzlement scheme carried out by his wife, Lori L. Doughty, a part-time bookkeeper at The Fisher Group dental clinic in Olympia. Prosecutors alleged that Doughty laundered a portion of the stolen funds. His wife had already been fired and separately arrested on theft charges arising from the same scheme.

Update: Guilty Pleas

Doughty later pleaded guilty to four felonies — unlawful use of criminal proceeds, money laundering, and two counts of forgery — in Thurston County Superior Court. Prosecutors recommended a 17-month prison term for his role in laundering proceeds of the $1.9 million embezzlement, while his wife Lori pleaded guilty to 15 felonies and faced a recommended 10-year sentence.
