Virginia dentist's friend David Kagey sentenced to three years for steal of $422k

David Kagey of Richmond, Virginia was sentenced to three years in prison for embezzling from longtime dentist Edward D. Gardner Jr., with whom he had been both a trusted business partner and close personal friend. Dr. Gardner testified that he had trusted Kagey as much as anyone he had ever known. The case is a sobering reminder that personal relationships and longstanding trust offer no protection against embezzlement, and that financial controls must apply equally to friends, family members, and long-term associates.
