A veterinary example -- PA office manager Trisha Lynn McLaughlin accused of steal of $355k from animal hospital

Trisha Lynn McLaughlin, 36, of Warminster, Pennsylvania, was charged with first-degree felony offenses — including dealing in proceeds of unlawful activities — after allegedly embezzling more than $355,790 from Newtown Veterinary Hospital, where she served as office manager. McLaughlin turned herself in after charges were filed by Detective Charles Palko Jr.

While this case involves a veterinary practice rather than a dental office, it illustrates that the financial controls needed to prevent embezzlement are equally critical in any practice-based healthcare setting. The vulnerabilities are virtually identical: a trusted manager, inadequate oversight, and extended opportunity.
