Editor's note -- a review of Ms. Kinney's record shows several prior criminal convictions. Proper pre-employment screening could have prevented this disaster.
MYRTLE BEACH, South Carolina - Myrtle Beach police arrested an employee of a DSO-supported dental office after the business reported an alleged breach of trust in August.
On Aug. 20, officers responded to Affordable Dentures & Implants located at 1267 38th Avenue North after the regional manager filed a complaint against employee Ashanti Kinney.
Kinney’s job was to collect money from customers and deposit it at the bank, the report states.
Investigators retrieved bank records, audit documents, and scheduling paperwork. The documents showed that from Jan. 1 to Aug. 15, Kinney allegedly stole $612,990.20 from the business.
Officials say Kinney was going through patient accounts and marking them down as “paid” for the procedures, but was keeping the cash.
Kinney was arrested on Tuesday and is charged with breach of trust with fraudulent intent. She posted a $20,000 bond and has been released from jail.
