West Virginia Dental Office Employee Accused of Embezzling Over $463,000

RALEIGH COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A former employee of a Raleigh County dental practice is accused of embezzling more than $463,000 over several years, according to a criminal complaint filed with West Virginia State Police.

Troopers say the investigation began on Oct. 29, 2025, when a complaint was filed by Dr. Jeffery Jarrell, owner of Jarrell Family Dentistry, located along Harper Road in Surveyor.

A forensic accountant was hired to investigate fraudulent checks discovered on Dr. Jarrell’s accounts. According to the report, between June 14, 2018, and June 25, 2025, Angela Hall, an employee of the dental office, allegedly embezzled at least $463,351.40.

Investigators say Hall had broad access to the business’s finances and Dr. Jarrell’s personal accounts due to her position. She was authorized to pay business expenses and certain personal bills for Dr. Jarrell. However, evidence shows that over a seven-year period, Hall allegedly wrote hundreds of checks to herself without permission.

According to the forensic report, 422 checks were written from Dr. Jarrell’s account. Approximately 380 of those checks were made payable directly to Hall, totaling more than $311,000. Dr. Jarrell told investigators he only permitted Hall to write checks to herself a couple of times per year so she could cash them and return the money to him.

The remaining checks were written to various individuals and organizations, including J&A Trucking, Jeff Godbey, Johnny Roark, Sam Davis, and EN Hope Ministries. Investigators say none of those payees performed services for Dr. Jarrell or the dental practice.

The investigation also revealed discrepancies between the dental office’s check registry and Hall’s bank records, with altered payee names and amounts allegedly used to conceal the fraud. In addition, Hall is accused of depositing patient cash payments into her personal bank account. Records show that while more than $140,000 in patient cash payments should have been deposited into the business account, only about $42,000 was actually deposited.

Authorities noted that Hall’s annual take-home pay from the dental practice was approximately $25,730, yet bank records showed more than $311,000 in debt payments during the period in question—far exceeding her reported income.

Hall was terminated after the alleged embezzlement was discovered. She initially agreed to meet with investigators at the West Virginia State Police Beckley Detachment on Dec. 5, 2025, but canceled the interview the day before and advised troopers to contact her attorney. Attempts to reach her attorney were unsuccessful.

Based on the investigation, troopers allege Hall fraudulently converted funds from Dr. Jarrell for personal use. The alleged crimes occurred in Raleigh County.
